The Specialist Dental Education Program in Orthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Padjadjaran (hereinafter referred to as FKG Unpad) was established in 1982. This was based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 139/DIKTI/Kep/1984 on the Specialist Dental Education Program and Catalog, and Decree No. 141/DIKTI/Kep/1984 on the designation of four centers for the Specialist Dental Education Program, namely the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Indonesia, FKG Unpad, the Faculty of Dentistry at Gadjah Mada University, and the Faculty of Dentistry at Airlangga University.

As outlined in the Guidelines for Opening Specialist Dental Education Study Programs, the implementation of the Specialist Dental Education Program in Orthodontics at FKG Universitas Padjadjaran is based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 139/DIKTI/Kep/1984 concerning the implementation of specialist education at four state universities. Consequently, the Orthodontics Study Program (PS Ortodonti) was opened at FKG Unpad in 1985. The designated universities met the following criteria: (a) accredited A, (b) possessing a Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGMP) and its network, and (c) having received an operational permit via a Decree of the Director General of Higher Education.

The core subjects supporting the program's excellence include Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Treatment of Class I, II, and III Malocclusions, Multidisciplinary Treatment, Orthognathic Surgery, Dentocraniofacial Growth and Development, Interceptive Orthodontics I and II, and Cephalometrics.

The program specializes in interceptive orthodontics and orthognathic surgery cases for patients with cleft lip and palate and non-cleft lip and palate conditions, continually advancing in line with developments in science and technology.
