Actuarial Science

Actuarial science is a field of study that examines the management of future financial risks by applying mathematics, probability and statistics, economics and finance, and computation to address problems related to uncertainty in future events with financial implications.

The Undergraduate Actuarial Science Study Program at FMIPA Unpad includes a compulsory course titled "Thematic Internship," where students directly engage with real-world issues in insurance companies, taught by practitioners within those companies. Another mandatory course is "Research Internship," which requires students to complete an internship in non-bank financial industries (life insurance, general insurance, insurance consulting, and pension planning) or in the banking financial industry for a minimum of two months, gaining practical experience in applying actuarial science in the real world. The Undergraduate Actuarial Science Study Program at FMIPA Unpad has partnered with the Society of Actuaries of Indonesia (PAI) to establish equivalence for seven professional examinations with codes A10 to A70. This provides students with an early opportunity to obtain a professional designation, specifically Associate Actuary (ASAI), in addition to their academic degree (S.Aktr). Holding the seven PAI professional certification exams gives graduates of Unpad's actuarial science program a competitive advantage in employment, particularly in the insurance and risk management industries.
