The Specialist Study Program in Child Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran (FK Unpad) has been operational since 1967 and was officially established as a study program within the governance structure of Universitas Padjadjaran in 1980. The program's long history, the dynamic systems and regulations governing specialist medical education in child health in Indonesia, and the branching of pediatric sciences have positioned the Specialist Study Program in Child Health Sciences at FK Unpad as one of the programs with superior accreditation in Indonesia. Given its extensive historical journey, its strategic location in West Java, and the establishment of the Academic Health System at FK Unpad, the vision, mission, objectives, and strategies of the Specialist Study Program in Child Health Sciences are defined through a mechanism involving all stakeholders and are aligned with the overarching vision of Unpad, FK Unpad, and its main teaching hospital, Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung (RSHS). Since its establishment as a specialist program within FK Unpad, the Specialist Study Program in Child Health Sciences has produced 551 graduates to date and is recognized as one of the leading pediatric specialist programs in Indonesia. In accordance with the regulations of Unpad, FK Unpad, and the study program itself, a comprehensive and holistic selection system is employed. This system evaluates all academic, professional, and personal potential through best-practice methods grounded in strong evidence-based principles. The Specialist Study Program in Child Health Sciences at FK Unpad possesses adequate facilities and infrastructure, both in quantity and quality, sourced from FK Unpad and Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung to support the implementation of the university's tripartite functions (education, research, and community service). The program implements a curriculum designed to produce pediatric specialists equipped with foundational scientific knowledge, specialist clinical skills, and strong professionalism within the context of health issues. This includes a profound devotion to God, high moral values, medical ethics and humanism, and the capacity for self-development through lifelong learning. The nationally standardized curriculum also integrates the components of the university's tripartite functions to support the achievement of the study program's vision, mission, objectives, and targets. Graduates of the Level-1 Specialist Study Program in Child Health Sciences at Unpad possess competencies in diagnosing, managing, and treating various health issues in children, from infants to adolescents. They are skilled in identifying infectious diseases, growth disorders, genetic abnormalities, and children's mental health problems. These graduates are also capable of providing preventive and promotive care, as well as designing specialized care plans for children with specific medical conditions. With a deep understanding of child development and medical ethics, they are prepared to contribute in hospitals, pediatric clinics, and research to improve the health and well-being of children.
