In the English Literature Program, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Padjadjaran, students are guided and trained to develop critical thinking skills, a broad perspective, a disciplined yet flexible work ethic, and of course, a high proficiency in the English language. In addition to taking general courses as in other study programs at Universitas Padjadjaran and other higher education institutions, students in the English Literature Program are offered specialized courses in the humanities or cultural studies. However, the majority of courses in the English Literature curriculum focus on three types of subjects: English proficiency courses, linguistics courses, and literature and cultural studies courses. Armed with a broad perspective, strong language skills, an independent and adaptive attitude, and the ability to utilize technology in their work, graduates of English Literature can not only develop themselves toward their desired careers but also make significant contributions to their employing institutions and society at large, whether at the local, national, or international level.
The curriculum and the entire learning process in the English Literature Program, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Padjadjaran, are designed to accommodate students from diverse backgrounds and individual conditions. By benchmarking against similar programs in various countries, graduates of the English Literature Program, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Padjadjaran, possess minimum competencies equivalent to those of similar programs abroad. Learning in the English Literature Program consistently integrates values of inclusivity grounded in principles of equality and diversity. Thus, the learning process, which enhances competencies in articulating ideas and communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, is always conducted within a framework sensitive to social issues related to gender, multiculturalism, socio-economic inequality, and colonial history.
